"My God-like veneer was just that – a shiny shellac, hardened over time, to keep out those who’d want a piece of someone I feared might not be inside me."
~ Steven from Dear,
"When you are sick of beating yourself up for a past you can't change, change the life you have left."
~ from The Face with One Eye
"If you can tell stories, create characters, devise incidents, and have sincerity and patience, it doesn't matter a damn how you write." ~ Somerset Maugham

Palms on the Asphalt
Palms on the Asphalt is an epic tale of the great Aliyah of 1989-2003. Like a wave that, having crashed against the shore, drags rocks, seashells and crabs out to sea, so the wave of immigration to Israel swept up everyone. It swept up those who were willing and those who were not, those Jewish in their very souls, those Jewish by passport only, and even non-Jews. It swept up those whose only choice was to follow husbands and wives. It swept up those who would leave at any price, even forging documents to become Jewish.
Some, linked by familial ties and the bonds of love, came from the same city before leaving, while others met in the never-ending line to obtain Israeli visas in Moscow. They all find themselves in Israel on the cusp of the first Gulf War. How long does it take to make the Holy Land one’s own? For some, only one night of falling bombs; for others, their entire lives.
